The Present:

Sitting in a bar, staring into his drink. The same one he'd ordered hours ago, bought and paid for out of his own pocket and everything. Anything particularly valuable to him was left behind in his room, letters and stones, seashells and crowns and a dozen little mementos of his high school days. He wouldn't be needing them tonight.

The last few weeks had been utter chaos. Jonothon hadn't exactly been expecting anything resembling a warm welcome when he'd found his way back to the Massachusetts Academy, which was probably why he'd been so shocked that not only were his old classmates expecting him, but they'd actually seemed... more or less pleased to see him.

Never let it be said that Jonothon Starsmore had ever turned up an opportunity for some well-deserved sulking.

Tonight's opportunity was grabbed onto with a gusto as he crouched down in the remains of the girls' dormitory, thinking sullen, sullen thoughts to himself. He figured they were entirely justified, damn it anyhow.
